This Mountain Ash Hitty is 4 and 5/8 inches tall, and
wears a necklace of the tiniest antique coral-colored seed beads.
Mountain Ash, or Rowan, is not native to North America and only
grows where it has been planted, and it is not a lumber wood,
so it is very hard to obtain. After several years of searching,
I was finally able to find a few nice pieces from Canada. This
Hitty is my very first Mountain Ash carving! Mountain Ash is
a fruitwood and it is hard and splintery, with an unpredictable
grain, but it is worth it for this traditional Hitty wood.
