This Basswood Hitty measures 4 and 11/16 inches tall, and wears a necklace of the tiniest antique coral-colored seed beads. After I cut into this piece of basswood, I was pleased to discover that, intended for decorative woodturning, it was figured with a wavy grain similar to curly maple. The waves are small and close together, and in white basswood, the effect is more light and delicate than in maple. The ripply shimmer of the grain is most apparent on her torso.
